Furever Friends Animal Rescue of Brunswick County, NC (FFAR) is announcing a new chapter to assist homeless pets with medical and surgical care as well as expanding the focus to assist pet parents with financial hardship care for their pets. Effective February 28, 2026, FFAR is dissolving operations and transitioning to an opportunity with the newly formed 501 (c) 3 charitable fund established by our primary long-term animal care provider, Capeside Animal Hospital, through the non-profit Veterinary Care Foundation. The charitable fund has the same operating parameters as FFAR providing medical and surgical care to injured sick and abandoned animals including helping pet parents experiencing financial hardship receive care for their pets. The charitable fund will also expand the mission to support pets of individuals experiencing homelessness or at-risk. FFAR was established as a 501 (c) 3 organization in 2008 and since then nearly 1,000 pets have received medical and surgical care they may not have otherwise received, and the majority were adopted. All of this was done by volunteers who served on the Board of Directors, with daily operations, fundraisers, fostering and transporting pets, adoption events and the list go on. Once all debts are settled, remaining funds will be transferred to the Capeside Animal Hospital charitable fund so they may continue and enhance what FFAR has been doing for the past 18 years. Donations to the Capeside Animal Hospital charitable fund can be made via this link: Veterinary Practice Donation | Veterinary Care Foundation. A very special thanks to Dr. Sheila Hanby, owner of Capeside Animal Hospital for her unwavering support and commitment to the mission of FFAR. It was Dr. Hanby’s idea to start a medical non-profit for homeless pets and the rest is history. Thank you as well to the dedicated, professional and skilled Capeside Animal Hospital team for providing the utmost care for the pets brought to them through FFAR these past 18 years. On behalf of the FFAR Board of Directors and volunteers, we want to thank the many donors, volunteers, animal hospitals, specialty care providers, and everyone who has supported our efforts. It has been a true pleasure to provide care and find forever homes for so many wonderful and deserving pets and serve the community.
